Event Details

The Technological Change Lab (TCLab), Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation (GSAPP), Columbia University and UN-HABITAT are proud to present Building Blocks: Knowledge and Innovative Cities, the flagship event to launch the new, multi-year international partnership between TCLab at Columbia University and UN-HABITAT on February 17, 2012 in New York. The partnership will introduce a series of cutting-edge technology projects, events and publications focused on how cities are shaping and being shaped by innovation and the global economy. It explores how rapidly changing and growing cities – from Sao Paolo to Mumbai, Bangalore to Beijing, and Amman to New York – generate economic dynamism and address equity and the environment through technological innovation.

Building Blocks will feature select panel discussions on the linkages between technological innovation, employment and the urban economy. Panellists will analyse and discuss the impact of innovation and technology transfer in important cities around the world, current projects underway at TCLab, UN-HABITAT, and other partners, in addition to planned joint initiatives of the partnership.

Technological Change Lab (TCLab), Columbia University

The Technological Change Lab (TCLab) is a research and advisory program associated with the Urban Planning program at Columbia University. It is housed at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) which brings together a vast mix of disciplines and research and professional engagements with cities and regions.

TCLab was founded at Columbia University to focus on connecting economic theory with development planning practice, especially the origins and impacts of technological changes. We work across multiple industrial sectors and technologies with ongoing and planned projects across several countries.
